Laser Therapy

Our consultations are 50% longer than most vets in the USA AND MEXICO!

All of the staff at Otay Vet Veterinary Clinic understand the concern owners feel about their pet’s discomfort. Pain is one of the most common concerns addressed during examinations, and when discussing surgery or quality of life. Pets feel the same discomfort that we do when we are ill or injured.

Since your pets often can’t tell you when or where it hurts it is up to you and your veterinarian to recognize when you pet is uncomfortable. Here are some signs of discomfort to look for at home:

Cats

  • Hiding or less interaction with the family
  • Reluctance or hesitation before jumping
  • Reduction in play activity
  • Irritation and swatting when hind end petted
  • Missing the litter box or loss of litter box training
  • Constipation
  • Reduced appetite

Dogs

  • Difficulty climbing stairs, walking, running, or jumping
  • Reluctance to play
  • Lameness, limping, or moving with an altered walk
  • Stiffness or slowness in rising from a resting position
  • Soreness upon being touched
  • Frequent yelping or whimpering or lack of vocalization
  • Excessive licking of a joint or leg
  • Behavioral changes such as withdrawal or aggression

At Otay Vet Veterinary Clinic we have made it our goal to offer our clients the best in pain management therapy. We achieve this by a variety of pain medications, supplements, chondroprotective injections, prescription diets, exercise programs and our latest cutting edge technology : STEM CELL THERAPY.

We are now thrilled to offer a new option for your pet. Laser therapy is a treatment that has been used by chiropractors and physiotherapists in human medicine for years. It uses light that penetrates deeply into tissue to reduce pain and inflammation and increase circulation and can be used for a wide range of painful conditions including:

  • arthritis
  • wounds (bites, burns, scrapes, cuts)
  • hip dysplasia and degenerative joint disease
  • post-surgical pain (trauma, spay, neuter, declaw)
  • dental pain (gingivitis, dental extractions)
  • ear infections
  • skin conditions (hot spots, lick granulomas, anal sac infections)
  • sprains and fractures
  • bruising and swelling

If you have any questions please e-mail drlopez@otayvet.com or call him at (619) 816-8415 to book a complimentary consultation.

How Laser Therapy Work

  • Laser Therapy increases circulation, which reduces pain and inflammation.
  • Laser Therapy also reduces pain by stimulating an endorphin release.
  • Laser Therapy excites the energy carrier in the cell (ATP) to heal the cells in 33-50% less time.
  • Laser Therapy treats inflammation, pain and/or acute trauma.
  • Laser Therapy treats chronic conditions which cause pain, stiffness and results in loss of mobility.
  • Laser treatments are cumulative and build upon one another. Generally, one treats a pet with a series of treatments for the best effect.
  • You may see radical improvement after one treatment but generally several treatments are required to gain the maximum effects, especially for chronic conditions
